Rhinoplasty (Surgery of the Nose)
This is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures.
It often helps the patient who is seeking to enhance their overall facial
appearance by the reshaping of the nose. The best candidates for rhinoplasty
are those patient’s who are looking to reduce or sculpt the oversize
of the nose, change the shape of the tip, the nostrils or the bridge
of the nose.
Procedure:
Generally the incisions are made inside the nose, not externally, but
occasionally a tiny external incision is required. Through the incisions
the cartilage and the bone are sculpted to reshape the nose in order
to improve the external appearance. This procedure can be performed
at the same time that the septum is being straightened for breathing
problems.
Recovery:
The patient goes home wearing an external splint, a light nasal pack
or internal splint may also be used. There is minimal to moderate postoperative
discomfort that is well controlled with medication. Most discoloration
and swelling will subside over a period of one to two weeks.
